The Wild Galway Games Incubator (WGGI).
Topic: Successful Application and Incubator.
While development of our game project: Chaos Riders, was underway, I applied to Ardán’s ‘IndieDev 2024’ and WGGI programmes. I was eager to succeed with the IndieDev application in particular, as this had a €15,000 grant behind it. Unfortunately though, I didn’t get this, in spite of the effort I put into my application. I believe the assessors were looking for individuals who hadn’t established a company yet, or hadn’t developed their game project as far a long as my team and I had at the time, which is understandable.
I may not have gotten IndieDev, but luckily, my application for the WGGI programme (which was occurring alongside IndieDev 2024) was successful. I was grateful for this, as I wanted to develop a social media plan and review it with an industry professional, which amongst other things, the programme provided.
Over our four-months with this incubator, we covered topics such as: Business Development, Market Research, Social Media Marketing & Planning, Discord Community Management, Project Management & Game Design. I had a great time with this incubation programme, and I can recommend it to anyone looking to start their own Games Development company/project here in Ireland.
We concluded the incubator with a nice celebration event at the CREW building here in Galway, which is where the incubation programme was hosted.

It depends on your project, ambition and needs, but generally speaking, programmes like these are worth applying for. If you’re successful, not only do you learn about topics relevant to your project and business, but you build upon your ‘CV’ for future applications. If unsuccessful, you’ll still have your application, which can be iterated upon and used for follow-up applications, where the likelihood you succeed increases.
Those behind these programmes and their applications, generally look for individuals that are competent and determined. If you can demonstrate that you have a well-researched and realistic product/business idea, and that you’re willing to participate in programmes such as this one, the likelihood you succeed with your programme-based application increases substantially.
Of course, a good application needs to be well-researched and written also. That’s where we can help.
