New Frontiers: Phase 2.
Topic: Successful Application and Programme.
Shortly after the New Frontiers: Phase 1 Bootcamp with Paul Healy, George Bulman and Munster Technological University (MTU), I applied for the New Frontiers: Phase 2 programme. The Phase 2 programme is a paid, six-month-long programme, so I was quite interested in it at the time. Shortly after I applied, I was requested for an interview. I was delighted with this of course, but very nervous as well, as I really wanted it. Also, for the interview, I needed to create and rehearse a pitch in less than a week, so to do this sufficiently in such short time proved challenging. Come the day of the interview, I was even more nervous than before. However, my pitch was strong and well-rehearsed, so while nervous, I was ready for the interview.
In spite of the nerves, the interview was great. There was a good energy in the room after I concluded my pitch, and the interviewers asked reasonable questions which I could answer well. A week or so after my interview, I was offered a position on the New Frontiers Phase 2 programme at MTU, which I happily accepted!
Over the duration of the programme, I learned about: Business Development, Market Research, Intellectual Property Law, Branding, Business Plans, Pitching, Project Management, Accountancy, Taxation, Elevator Pitching, Value Propositions & Business Model Canvasing. These topics were covered by a host of speakers and business veterans. The programme itself was also managed by our excellent programme manager, Aoife McInerney.
I would certainly recommend the New Frontiers: Phase 2 programme to anyone looking to start their own company/business venture. However, before applying (and while it is not strictly necessary), I would recommend you engage with the New Frontiers: Phase 1 programme and/or Local Enterprise Office programmes.

It depends on your project, ambition and needs, but generally speaking, programmes like these are worth applying for. If you’re successful, not only do you learn about topics relevant to your project and business, but you build upon your ‘CV’ for future applications. If unsuccessful, you’ll still have your application, which can be iterated upon and used for follow-up applications, where the likelihood you succeed increases.
Those behind these programmes and their applications, generally look for individuals that are competent and determined. If you can demonstrate that you have a well-researched and realistic product/business idea, and that you’re willing to participate in programmes such as this one, the likelihood you succeed with your programme-based application increases substantially.
Of course, a good application needs to be well-researched and written also. That’s where we can help.
