New Frontiers: Phase 1.

Topic: Successful Application & Programme.

Shortly after completing my fourth and final year of Technological University Dublin’s Game Design course, I applied for the New Frontiers: Phase 1 programme. Luckily, most of the work I had completed for my Business and Distribution of Games module, which I had done as part of my Game Design course, could be used for my application. As such, I had time to refine and submit it early. Sometime after my application submission, I was accepted onto the New Frontiers: Phase 1 programme.

My first session with the programme took place in the South East Technological University (SETU) – Waterford Campus. We covered a variety of topics over the programme’s six-week duration, and I pitched my business idea/game: Chaos Riders, in our final session. The topics we covered with our programme manager, Eugene Crehan, included: Business Development, Market Research, Business Planning, Business Psychology, Pitching, Elevator Pitching, Value Proposition & Business Model Canvasing.

It depends on your project, ambition and needs, but generally speaking, programmes like these are worth applying for. If you’re successful, not only do you learn about topics relevant to your project and business, but you build upon your ‘CV’ for future applications. If unsuccessful, you’ll still have your application, which can be iterated upon and used for follow-up applications, where the likelihood you succeed increases.

Those behind these programmes and their applications, generally look for individuals that are competent and determined. If you can demonstrate that you have a well-researched and realistic product/business idea, and that you’re willing to participate in programmes such as this one, the likelihood you succeed with your programme-based application increases substantially.

Of course, a good application needs to be well-researched and written also. That’s where we can help.
