FíS Games Summit: April 2025.
Topic: Successful Application & Event.
Being well-immersed in the Galway games’ scene for the last two years, there was no way in which I’d miss this event. I had attended previous FíS Games Summits, and I greatly enjoyed them all. Little did I know, however, this years’ event was going to be the best yet.
Before the Games Summit took place, Ardán (the group responsible for organising the event) opened up applications for pitching to professional publishing scouts, as well as for video game exhibiting. Naturally, I was eager to engage with both.
The application was relatively straightforward, so I completed and submitted it in reasonable time. A week or two later, I was informed that I had been accepted to both pitch and demo at the event. I was grateful for this opportunity, as I had been working on my pitch deck for a while up until this point, and I could get more marketing material for my social medias with an event like this. My programmer was also able to resolve the bugs present in our game build from Dublin Comic con, so it was great to have our game: Chaos Riders, playtested again.
On the 11th of April, I arrived early and prepared my stand for the day. An hour or so afterwards, the event begun.
Between the playtesting, live-talks, conversations with passionate game devs, pitching, and time with friends, I had a fantastic time at this years’ FíS Games Summit! The opportunity to have my game playtested, as well as to pitch to industry veterans: Isaac Haslehurst, Rabia Dincer, and Omar Khalil, was great. The playtesters and industry veterans gave great feedback, and had positive things to say about our game and pitch. Lastly, the talks I did get to attend were interesting, and the rooftop party upon the Radisson Red was a great way to end the very successful day.
I would certainly recommend applying to (or just attending) events such as the FíS Games Summit here in Galway, Ireland. While it may be more suited (currently) for Irish game devs, you do get to meet and network with the majority of the Irish games’ community. Also, the opportunity to get feedback from passionate gamedevs will provide you with more detailed feedback than your average playtester. As well as this, the opportunity to practice your game pitch with industry professionals is a rare opportunity, and one that should not be easily passed on.

It depends on your project, ambition and needs, but generally speaking, events like these are worth applying for. If you’re successful, not only do you get to showcase your game and pitch it to industry professionals, but you build upon your ‘CV’ for future applications. If unsuccessful, you’ll still have your application, which can be iterated upon and used for follow-up applications, where the likelihood you succeed increases.
Those behind these events and their applications, generally look for individuals that are determined and motivated. If you can demonstrate that you have an exciting, creative project, and that you’re interested in demonstrating it to the public, the likelihood you succeed with your event-based application increases substantially.
Of course, a good application needs to be well-researched and written also. That’s where we can help.
